20 Seconds Presents: Chihei Hatakeyama and Ale Hop
20 Seconds, with Ben Fawkes, presents another concert in our ongoing series at Berlin’s Morphine Raum. On November 22, the magazine presents two solo performances by Chihei Hatakeyama and Ale Hop.
Chihei Hatakeyama is a Tokyo-based Japanese musician and mastering engineer. In a career spanning almost two decades, his delicate and detailed ambient compositions have continued to set themselves apart for their intricate structure and ethereal timbre. He has released on labels like Lawrence English’s Room40, Magic Book Records and his own imprint, White Paddy Mountain. On this night, Chihei Hatakeyama performs on guitar and pedals.
Alejandra Cárdenas Pacheco, known as Ale Hop, is a Berlin-based Peruvian-born musician, curator and researcher. Her performances often blend visceral sounds with an unavoidable emotionality, combining extended guitar techniques and electronic synthesis. She is a co-founder of the Berlin-based festival Radical Sounds of Latin America and is a PhD candidate at the Berlin University of Arts, as well as the director of the editorial platform Contingent Sounds. On this night, Ale Hop performs on guitar and electronics.

The project aimed to recontextualize the Otto-von-Bismarck monument at the Deutsches Museum (Boschbrücke, Munich) by means of sound and performance. In order to call attention to the imperialistic, nationalistic and colonial contexts a sculpture consisting of 21 guitar amplifiers was installed for one day in front of the monument. Seven electric guitars were connected to the sound system. On them, together with seven guitarists, an ambient drone composition was performed for four hours.

20 Seconds Presents ZO, Pedro Oliveira and Pedro Maia
20 Seconds is proud to present the latest in a series of concerts celebrating the release of the 20 Seconds Issue 4. Please join us on Tuesday, 9 August, 2022 at Morphine Raum in Berlin for an evening of performances exploring experimentation.
The audiovisual performance project ZO melds the worlds of artists Tarik Barri and Lea Fabrikant. Employing pioneering software, which reinterprets space, time and movement in a live context, along with voice, electronics and visuals, ZO treads the fine lines of the triangle of research, deconstruction and electronic exploration through a new visual reality.
Poet, performer and researcher Pedro Oliveira grounds his work in a number of themes, but the most prominent are the concepts of sonic violence and its correspondence with identity. Oliveira has researched topics such as Germany’s use of technology in screening asylum applicants, the culture of sonic violence and identity in Brazil as well as the history of recording accents in the early 20th century in order to demonstrate and apply the limits of oppressive sonic identification through performance.
Juxtaposing the possibilities of both analogue and digital media, Pedro Maia is committed to a spirit of experimentation across his multidisciplinary body of work. Although primarily a filmmaker, the images of the Berlin-based Portuguese artist reveal themselves in a range of forms, such as photo books to accompany album releases, live visuals for experimental music performances and films to be exhibited in the cinema, in both feature and avant-garde formats.

20 Seconds Presents Abdullah Miniawy and Alma Djelić
20 Seconds presents Abdullah Miniawy + Alma Đelić
Martedì 21.06.2022 – ore 21.00
”20 Seconds Magazine Issue 4 is not rooted in hope, but rather in resistance—to what comes when the surreal notions of our collectively detrimental existence begin to sink into the wet sands of our memories."
IT

20 Seconds is ready to announce the latest in a series of collaborations between the Berlin-based magazine and Egyptian poet and singer Abdullah Miniawy. On 21 June, the biannual print publication for experimental music and art will present a new performance by the Paris-based artist, following the release of Untitled, an edited translation of the poet’s 2021 piece, featured in 20 Seconds Issue 3.
Alma Đelić, the Belgrade and Paris-based poet and musician will perform a collection of material rooted in her practice of improvisation and sonic manipulation, tethered to and simultaneously liberated from delineated composition. This follows the magazine’s collaboration with Đelić in the release of her poem “Grey Skies Over the City I Used to Love,” in 20 Seconds Issue 3.
